3 of America’s Best Seafood Cities

There are many reasons why a person chooses a vacation destination. Some seek rest and relaxation at an iconic oceanside resort. Others, meanwhile, opt to challenge themselves by kayaking, hiking or rock climbing. A growing number of travelers, however, are making the decision based solely on their gut. Food tourism is gaining in popularity worldwide, with expectations that it could grow by nearly 10% in the coming years. America has become a go-to for gastronomes, and with 30 coastal states and nearly 100,000 miles of shoreline, it’s not surprising that it’s gaining a reputation as a seafood center. Here are three cities that deliver the most delicious dishes.

While most of America’s seafood stars are located along a coast, Dallas’ lack of proximity to the sea makes it a curious addition to the list for some. The city is out to prove it has more to offer than succulent steaks and the best barbecue, however, and it’s accomplishing that by serving the nation’s freshest seafood. Take a break from the Tex-Mex on your next trip to the Lonestar State and treat yourself at a fish, lobster or crab restaurant Plano or elsewhere around Dallas.

The seaside city in South Carolina is known as one of the best places to eat in all the South. Among its most famous fare are fresh oysters, low country shrimp and she-crab soup. Be sure to visit 167 Raw, considered by some as America’s best seafood restaurant.

Located on Puget’s Sound, Seattle is making noise as one of America’s seafood hotspots. The city is famous for its coffee, but specialties like salmon and shellfish aren’t far behind. No visit to Seattle would be complete without a stop at Pike Place Market. Visitors from around the world flock to the market to catch a glimpse of its flying fish.

While you can find a seafood dinner anywhere, some cities do it better than others. These are three of America’s best bets for fresh fish and succulent shellfish.

A Primer on Persian Cuisine

For foodies, every new cuisine is an exotic adventure. Each culture develops a shared palate of unique flavors and textures. While less well-known than Chinese or Indian food, Persian cuisine, or the cooking native to modern Iran, has become beloved by many who’ve had the pleasure of experiencing these ancient and refined tastes.

Persian Food Fundamentals

Historical Persia was a crossroads of East and West, and its cookery reflects both traditions. Meals are built on a staple of either bread or rice, which is often mixed with a variety of meat, vegetables, herbs, dried fruits and nuts. Common fruits include dates, pomegranates, apricots, grapes and raisins, while standard vegetables are eggplants, beans, squash, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots.

Famed Iranian-American chef and San Diego native Samin Nosrat says Persian cuisine is principally about balance. Iranian food features more bitter and sour ingredients than Anglo-American taste buds are used to. Primary spices are saffron, rose water and turmeric, while prominent condiments include yogurt, feta cheese, sour fruit juices and pickled vegetables.

Persian Culinary Customs

Iranians normally eat three meals a day. Breakfast traditionally consists of flatbread with butter, cheese and jam. Lunch and dinner feature one or more main courses surrounded by smaller side dishes of assorted vegetables, often served raw. The default beverage with any meal is tea, but can also be traditional Persian coffee.

Persian Delicacies

Typically, classic Persian specialties San Diego CA consist of stew (such as of meat, eggplant or pomegranate) served over rice, or a meat dish alongside the rice, such as kabab (kebabs.) Other popular favorites include barley soup, polo (pilafs) with chicken or lamb, tahdig (charred rice with various toppings) and kuku (a kind of Iranian omelet.) Finally, no list of Persian dishes would be complete without mentioning dolmeh, or grape leaves stuffed with minced meat, rice, herbs and spices.

Matthew Davies Gives You Reasons to Make Your Own Bread

Most people think making homemade bread is quite a daunting task, but contrary to popular belief, they are easy to pull off. Besides being an exciting task, making bread at home has certain advantages, and our guest for today, Mr. Matthew Davies will share some of them with us. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

The Details

5 minutes, that’s all it takes to make bread at home. This might appear a bit misleading as the baking process takes ~40 minutes. What I meant to say was that it takes 5 minutes of active labor i.e., shaping the loaf and putting it into the oven. You need to prepare the dough the previous night. Different types of bread take different amounts of time to prepare, but we will stick to basic stuff for now. So, why should you make bread at home? Consider the following reasons –

  1. It is cheaper – Let’s look at the ingredients. Flour, water, and yeast. You can prepare more amount of bread by buying the ingredients separately and preparing them at home and the process will cost you less compared to buying a ready-made bread loaf. It can be as low as 40 cents/loaf.

The price may seem unreal, but it’s possible. Of course, you might waste quite a bit of bread if it’s your first time and you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. But practice long enough and you will get the hang of it.

  1. Texture and aroma – Now, this one might not appeal to most of you, but let me assure you it’s worth the hassle. Nothing compares to the fresh bready smell you get from a freshly baked loaf of bread. The texture and aroma alone are enough to make you drool. If you’re having guests over, the smell can also lighten the mood of the room, and work as a room freshener.

3.No Preservatives – Store-bought bread is known to not catch any sort of mold for up to two months, which is completely unnatural. Freshly baked good quality loaves of bread can go bad relatively fast, within a matter of days, but that’s what makes them good as there is no preservative in them. In a world where food quality is highly concerning, it is better to switch to food which contains no preservative.

  1. Quality – This is also a matter of preference, but no matter how much you try, you’ll never be able to replicate the exact taste of store-bought bread. Some bread lovers like the smell and taste of store bread repulsive or too strong.

On average, more people prefer homemade bread. Their opinion is that the home-baked ones have a natural aroma and taste to them which appears more bready, compared to the ones you buy at the shop. It’s all about an acquired taste, but the fact remains that the ones you bake yourself are healthier and more nutritious.

Matthew Davies believes that baking bread at home will give you the freedom to experiment and explore with your food. You’re probably thinking that you don’t have the time to do all this, but whatever time you have is enough for preparing your own bread. Plus, it’s simple to make, healthy to eat and a fun process.

5 Easy And Quick Beef Recipes For Dinner Buffet

Cooking dinner is a challenge but cooking a buffet dinner for a party can be doubly intimidating. Hosting a party is a lot of work, so this article will provide five easy beef recipes – meaning that you can spend more time setting up the party and interacting with your guests.

Each of these recipes is simple to prepare and features high-quality Australian beef. Whether you are cooking beef steaks, tacos, skewers, or meatballs, there are simple and quick recipes here for every level of chef.

Mexican Style Beef Tacos

Beef rump is a lesser chosen cut of meat. A high-quality rump roast, however, can make a delicious meal if you know how to cook it well. To make rump roast tacos, start by slicing the rump roast into long strips. Be sure to use a sharp knife, as a dull knife with toughening the meat. Season the strips with salt, pepper, chilli powder, and Mexican seasonings. In a large stainless-steel pan or wok, sauté garlic and oil for a minute before adding the beef.

Add hot sauce or teriyaki marinade while beef is cooking. Stir consistently to make sure beef is evenly cooked. Rump roast strips cook quickly, so watch them carefully. Once they are cooked, remove the strips to cool and mix shredded cabbage, carrot mix, avocado chunks, and lime juice in a big bowl. Serve beef and vegetable mix on tortillas.

Beef Satay Skewers

Another great usage of rump roast is beef satay skewers. These are the best grilled outside. Skewer chunks of rump steak with alternating beef chunks, tomatoes, and capsicum. If you use wooden or bamboo skewers for this recipe, soak them in cold water for several minutes before grilling.

This will keep the skewers from burning and disintegrating into the food. Brush the skewers with satay sauce, reserving some. Grill for five to ten minutes, basting occasionally with remaining sauce. These go well with couscous as a side or sticky rice. Serve with your side of choice as well as salad. Make sure to have extra satay sauce on the table as well.

Grilled Porterhouse Steak

Another great grilling recipe makes use of porterhouse steaks. These are best marinated in garlic with olive oil, rosemary, salt, and pepper for several hours before grilling. While marinating, prepare vegetables to be grilled. These can be anything you prefer, from capsicums, bell peppers, potatoes, yams, zucchinis, or something else.

Begin grilling the steaks and add the vegetables during the last few minutes of the grilling process, otherwise, they will burn. Pile each plate with a hefty portion of the grilled vegetables – these will act as a bed and side for the steaks. Slice the steaks and lay them out nicely on the vegetables. Finally, dress with the combination of lemon juice, olive oil, and herbs – to taste.

Classic Italian Beef Meatballs

This next recipe is a two-for-one as it can be taken in two different directions once the beef is prepared. To start, mix ground beef or ground chuck with eggs, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper, then form into golf ball-sized meatballs.

If you wish to turn this into a classic Italian dish, pan fry these meatballs in olive oil and add to a dish of pasta dressed with a simple marinara sauce. If you want a healthier kick, add vegetables to your dish.

Teriyaki Beef With Rice

Using the same meatball process above with any ground and less lean beef, you can create a spicy dinner. For an Asian-inspired dish, sauté these meatballs in soy sauce with garlic and ginger. Add brown sugar and your hot sauce of choice to this mixture.

To thicken this sauce, mix corn starch or potato starch with cold water. Add this slurry to the sauce and it will become much thicker. Cook udon noodle or rice to serve with these meatballs. Dress with green onion.

Oatmeal cream pies

I made these cookies for my family a few weeks ago, and they are BY FAR one of the most delicious confections I’ve whipped up in my kitchen. I’ve made them twice and each time they are better than I remember. Here’s the recipe:
Cookie Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 generous cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cups quick oats
Filling Ingredients:
2 teaspoons hot water
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow cream
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350.
Prepare cookies like any other basic cookie. Cream butter and sugars together until fluffy. Add in molasses, vanilla and eggs. Mix until incorporated. Slowly add flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon, then stir in oats.
Drop onto baking sheet in large uniform tablespoons. Bake until set, but don’t overcook as you want a chewy cookie, about 10 minutes.
While cookies are baking, make the filling.
In a small bowl, dissolve salt in the hot water.
Combine marshmallow cream, shortening, powdered sugar and vanilla in mixer. Beat on high until fluffy, then add in the cooled salt water and mix well.
After cookies have cooled, assemble into these sweet little pies.
